Amy Winehouse is “deeply uncomfortable” with being famous, according to her manager.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Raye Cosbert also blamed the singer's open personality for her run-ins with the media.
"Amy is a public person. She's not like your usual reclusive star. She likes ordinary people. She likes playing pool with the bin men in her local,” he said.
“If she could take the Tube everywhere she would. She feels deeply uncomfortable in the world of VIP celebrity."
Mr Cosbert went on to say that it was “unfortunate” that somebody can't be taught how to deal with fame.
The article also quoted Mitch Winehouse, the singer's father, recalling the nerves his daughter felt before her performance at Somerset House last year.
“She said to me, 'Dad, what are all these people doing here?' She didn't get it. She didn't understand that she was the Number 1 recording star in the world and that everyone wanted to see her,” he explained.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Winehouse is to focus on the making of her third album from September.
