Stars including Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam came out to pay tribute to The Who on Saturday at the third annual VH1 Rock Honours ceremony.
Held at the UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, the event pays tribute to acts who have shaped the face of rock music over the decades.
Jack Black, who performed at the event with his band Tenacious D, said of The Who: "It's an honour to honour what I consider to be the greatest band of all time. Wanna know why they were the greatest? Because they were the first ones to really rock hard."
Others present at the ceremony included Incubus, The Flaming Lips and actors David Duchovny, Adam Sandler and Mila Kunis.
Upon receiving their award, Roger Daltrey from The Who paid tribute to deceased members of the band Keith Moon and John Entwistle.
He said: "I have had a life of absolute privilege and wonder. How could it ever be bittersweet? I miss old friends, but they are with me. When we start playing our music, John and Keith echo with us all the time, so it's kind of like they never left."
