Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan says the band will prove dance music purists wrong when they headline the Creamfields festival in Cheshire next month.
“I think it's risky, I think it's ballsy and I think we're one of those bands that can really carry it,” Meighan told Gigwise, in an exclusive interview ahead of the event.
Kasabian will headline the main stage at the festival, which runs from August 23rd-24th, alongside Fatboy Slim.
Despite their inclusion triggering criticism from dance music fans, Meighan, who called their decision to play “gutsy”, was confident that they would triumph at the event.
“We're becoming like a pack now, we're like a tribe, we come and do our ****ing shit, leave our mark and move – that's what we're like now,” he said.
'We Can Play Anywhere'
The singer also said that because the band had played twice at Glastonbury and three times at the V Festival in as many years, it would have “meant nothing” to play those events again in 2007.
“If we'd have gone to Glastonbury it wouldn't have been no different to last year and we haven't achieved anything else (since then),” he said.
“I think we can play anywhere. We're a rock'n'roll band but we've always got that kind of electronic cross over dance thing if it's needed.”
Kasabian are due to release their as-yet-untitled third album later this year and Meighan told Gigwise that fans would hear tracks from the record at Creamfields.
