Coldplay are vying with Duffy to become the first act of 2008 to spend five weeks on top of the UK album charts.
The band's latest album 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' is currently outselling the Welsh singer's debut record, entitled 'Rockferry'.
But midweek figures suggest that the contest will be close when the chart closes on Sunday.
'Rockferry' has spent the last three weeks behind Coldplay's album on the countdown.
Elsewhere, Black Kids look set to enter the top five with their debut album 'Partie Traumatic', as does Beck with his new release, 'Modern Guilt'.
In the singles chart meanwhile, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris are expected to hold onto the number one spot for a second week with 'Dance Wiv Me'.
