Guitar Hero Makers Dismiss Metallica, Beatles Games As 'Rumours'

But they'd like them to happen...

July 08, 2008 by Jason Gregory

One of the founders of Red Octane, the video game company responsible for Guitar Hero, says reports linking Beatles and Metallica to special editions of the game are untrue.

Charles Huang said the company was “not ready to comment” on the rumours that Metallica had joined the successful franchise, which recently saw the launch of a special Aerosmith edition.

It had been claimed that songs by the rock band, who release their new album in September, would appear on a future version of the game, due for release next year.

Speaking to Billboard, Mr Huang added that the company would “love to work with all of the top rock bands of all time, whether it's Aerosmith or Metallica or AC/DC or Led Zeppelin,"

"If we get an opportunity to work with those bands, we would love to do that."

    Beatles Doubts

Speaking about the Beatles, Mr Huang said that he didn't have to tell people how difficult it was to obtain the rights to their music.

"Everybody in the world has tried to get the Beatles to put their music on all kinds of different platforms, and it certainly would be exciting, but it's also a difficult challenge,” he said.

Yesterday, a spokesperson who represents Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page said he was doubtful the bands songs would ever appear in a video game.

What do you think about special editions off the game? What band would you most like to see feature? Let Gigwise know by posting a comment below.
