US rapper Jay-Z confronted Gordon Smart, the Sun newspaper’s showbiz editor, over the journalist’s review of his Glastonbury performance on Thursday (July 3rd).
Smart was one of the few critics to give a negative review of the rapper’s set in Somerset, calling it “uninspired” and questioning whether Jay-Z was “the right headliner for Glastonbury”.
Writing in his column today (July 5th), Smart says that the rapper spoke to him at London night club Paper following his appearance at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park on Thursday.
He says that the rapper told him he had “missed the moment” and accused him of being “a non-believer”.
“I made history on Saturday and that can’t be taken away from me,” Jay-Z said. “It was something new, never done before, and I’m proud.”
Despite criticism in the build-up to the event, Jay-Z proved most of his doubters wrong at Glastonbury, performing in front of one of the Pyramid Stage’s biggest crowds ever.
