Electro-pop duo The Black Ghosts took time out at Glastonbury last weekend to tell Gigwise what they think of the highlight of the British festival calendar.

“There was a time when I loved Glasto, but it’s too big now, there are too many people,” Simon Lord confessed.

Meanwhile partner-on-the-decks Theo Keating grumbled, “It’s like a big indie Oxford Street,” perhaps referring to the immaculately turned out younger crowd that roamed Worthy Farm clad in everything from purple lycra jumpsuits to fur coats and aviators.

Whilst the dance music aficionados might find the festival scene a bit overwhelming, they were keen to stress the importance of Glastonbury in the dance music calendar.

“One of the biggest moments in dance music was Orbital at Glastonbury,” Lord told Gigwise, “that was the moment when dance music went massive, so it’s always had a home here.”

Similarly, one of the biggest moments in The Black Ghost’s history occurred following Glastonbury 2007, too.

“We played here last year, but it was our last ever gig as a live band,” Theo explained, “so this is where the two man DJ thing was born.

After all the mud last year we decided we had too much shit to carry around and said “Shall we do something a bit easier?”, so we thought we’d do the DJ thing, and still do the songs justice but without the hassle of going round in smelly buses and vans and having to turn up at places really early.”

  • ’There are too many people’’ - had to queue for the toilets mate? There used to be well over 50,000 more sneaking in before they built the super fence, and they expanded the site camping this year as well!
