Saturday at Glastonbury sees temperatures soaring, with t-shirts and flip flops the order of the day for festival-goers.
Not for Elbow, however, who turned up today in uniform black suit jackets ready for their 8pm set on the Other Stage.
“I feel a bit guilty,” drummer Richard Jupp told Gigwise about their sharp suits and clean shoes, devoid of the traditional Glasto filth. Guy and Jupp arrived today to join the other three band members that spent last night at the festival ready for the set later tonight.
“We’re feeling great about the set,” keyboardist Craig said, “We’ve done quite a bit of touring lately, so we’re just really excited.”
They plan to pull out some crowd pleasers as well as tracks from ‘Seldom Seen Kid’ during the set, with Jupp promising the greatest hits. Special guest Richard Hawley will join the band some of their album tracks, too.
Bassist Pete spoke to Gigwise of “the luxury” of being a performing artist at a festival, saying that festivals aren’t the same now that they’ve experienced them from the other side.
“When you come down and you’re not playing you’re just really jealous of all the bands that are,” Jupp said, “we’re really chuffed we’re playing again.” This year is the band’s fourth Glastonbury performance.
Elbow are all excited to see Leonard Cohen perform tomorrow. Pete told Gigwise of the Canadian folk artist, “I don’t think you could drag us away. Cohen’s gig will be a nice comedown for us after we’ve played, we better not miss it as he’s on straight after us!”
Glastonbury kicks off a busy festival season for Elbow, who will be performing across Europe before heading off on tour in the coming months.
