10,000 Things were nearly arrested an incredible three times during the filming of the shocking gangster-style video for their forthcoming single ‘Dogsbody’, Gigwise can exclusively reveal.
Dressed as gangsters the Leeds lads carry out a bizarre kidnapping in the video - but whilst filming a getaway police repeatedly stopped the band who were wearing tights over their heads, thinking they were real criminals.
The band’s manager Mick McCarthy explains: “The band were dressed up in suits and were driving around Wakefield in the middle of the night with tights over their heads and they got stopped by the police three times. They looked very suspicious.”
“They managed to get away with it by pretending they were students making a video.”
The video was filmed last Monday (February 7) and was directed by Andy Soup, the man behind videos by The Streets and The Zutons.
McCarthy said the band wanted to make a video that was very different, so they decided on a kidnapping plot. He said: “The song ‘Dogsbody’ is about not being slave to a boss, so we hired an actor as the boss. He’s kidnapped by the band and bundled into the back of a car with a bag over his head.”
The band then met up with 150 fans who were invited to appear in the video. McCarthey added: “They drive to an abandoned warehouse… where they meet up with two coach loads of fans who were also dressed up as gangsters and they then all surround the boss.
“It was all done quite guerrilla style really.”
In other news, the craze of fans making 10,000 Things underwear that we told you about earlier this week is still going strong.
The band played a low-key gig at London’s Camden Palace last night along with Client, Ludes and The Rakes, and they were bombarded by fans armed with underwear. McCarthy said: “It’s definitely catching on.”
‘Dogsbody’ is released on March 21 with an album following a week later. Gigwise will show the video on the site as soon as we get it.
