US rapper 50 Cent has filed a $20million defamation lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, just hours after she applied for a temporary restraining order against the rapper.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, claims that Shaniqua Tompkins – who is the mother to his 11-year-old son – has been spreading lies about their relationship.
“Besides hurting his reputation, they have a damaging impact on their son,” Jackson’s attorney, Brett Kimmel, told the New York Daily News.
The relationship between Jackson and Tompkins has deteriorated following the outbreak of a “suspicious” fire at Tompkins’ home last month.
The Dix Hills property, which was owned by the rapper, had been at the centre of a bitter legal dispute between the pair.
Tompkins claimed that the rapper had backtracked on a promise made ten years ago to give her the property.
She then claimed in a recent interview that the rapper was “obsessed” with her and had threatened her life.
According to her lawyer, Tompkins applied for a temporary restraining order on Thursday (June 19th) so that she could “protect herself and her family.”
It requires that Jackson surrenders all firearms and refrains the rapper from being on the same property as Tompkins.
