Mastodon drummer Brann Dailour has revealed that the band are recording their new studio album in their home city of Atlanta.
Dailour said that the group were five songs into the record and described the current sounds as real creepy and spaced out and different”.
The band are recording the record with Brendan O'Brien, who was introduced to the band by Bruce Springsteen’s drummer Max Weinberg.
Speaking to Billboard, Dailour revealed that one song ‘The Last Baron’ was already over 15 minutes long.
"There's so many toys to play with over at his studio, like pipe organs and all this crazy shit," he said.
"There are little cool things we're going to do to the record that we've been wanting to do for a long time."
The album, which is yet to be titled, is due out later in 2008.
