Hugh Jarrett, a backing singer for Elvis Presley, has died at the age of 78, according to a funeral home in Atlanta.
Northside Chapel Funeral Directors said that Jarret died in hospital on Saturday after sustaining injuries in a traffic accident.
Jarrett was a bass singer Presley’s Jordanaires from 1954-58 and also toured with Presley after he finished military service in 1960, reports the Associated Press.
The singer, who starred in a number of Presley’s movies, last performed with the Jordanaires in 1997 in Memphis.
A funeral will be held this Friday.
