Dustin the Turkey, Ireland’s entry in the 2008 Eurovision song contest, believes his song will help bring Europe closer together.
Dustin said his entry ‘Irelande Douze Pointe’, which includes the lyrics, “Eastern Europe we love you, Do you like Irish stew? Or goulash as it is to you?", was more reminiscent of “a hymn” than a song.
“It's uniting Europe. It's bringing children from war-torn countries and people from Bulgaria, Georgia, and Roscommon (a county in Ireland) together,” he told the BBC.
"It's getting everyone dancing and rejoicing in the street. I'm telling you, the deaf will see and the blind will hear when this song goes worldwide."
Dustin was chosen to be Ireland’s entry following a television vote, and has so far attracted the support of broadcaster Terry Wogan and Sir Bob Geldof.
Yesterday (May 19th), Wogan, who presents the BBC's coverage of the contest, backed the United Kingdom’s entry despite saying he feared a flop would lead to “disenchantment”.
