Amy Winehouse 'Aunt' Makes Radio Plea To 'Leave Singer Alone'

A woman who claims to be the aunt of Amy Winehouse has made an on air plea for the media to leave the singer alone.

The woman, who only gave her first name, Sue, said she was angry that Winehouse was being used as an example in a discussion about drug use.

"Please let her finish her rehabilitation - let her try to get off the stuff and then we'll have the Amy we all want," she told BBC Radio 5Live.

"We're just trying to carry on our lives, if possible."

The woman said that Winehouse did not want to be seen as an icon and that “she’s setting no example”.

“She didn't want to be an example - all she wants to be is a singer and a songwriter. There are thousands of families going through the same tragic situation as us all over England and they're allowed to get on it quietly - and this is all we ask for Amy."

On the media, Winehouse’s ‘aunt’ said she hoped that the paparazzi would “give it a break”.

"Amy has the press knocking on her door at two o'clock, three o'clock in the morning and some of the photos of Amy at her worst is when she's had no sleep and gone downstairs to say 'leave me alone, shut up, I want to go to sleep'."

The woman claimed in her interview that Winehouse is currently undergoing another course of rehab, although she didn't disclose whether it was full time treatment.

As previously reported, in the early hours of Wednesday morning Winehouse was seen celebrating with Pete Doherty shortly after his ‘prison gig’ at The Forum in Kentish Town.
