Paul McCartney Criticised After Hybrid Car Is Flown To His House

Instead of being shipped...

Sir Paul McCartney has been criticised by environmentalists after it emerged that his Japanese hybrid car flown to his UK home.

The car, which was a gift from the Lexus car company, operates under the power of a hybrid electric engine when driven at low speeds.

But environmentalists argue that its green credentials have already been offset by the way it was delivered.

"It's like driving the car 300 times around the world," explained Gary Rumbold, the director of Co2balance in the UK, who accused somebody at Lexus of making “an error of judgement.”

“They wanted to get something to McCartney promptly, but it backfired,” he added. “They should have waited a few weeks and sent it by ship."

Mr Rumbold said that shipping the car would have been more environmentally friendly because freight ships can hold more cargo.

It’s not clear whether the former Beatle, who has long been outspoken for the environment, knew how the car had been delivered.

According to AOL Australia, McCartney’s spokesperson has confirmed that the star received the car from the manufacturer.

  • I agree 100% with Jim. Paul had no idea it was going to be flown. Lexus is at fault.

  • It’s still funny to me how those who need gifts like this about as much as they need a hole in the head, are the ones who receive them. If McCartney were strapped for money and not famous but needed the car to drive his poor sick mother back and forth to the hospital for life giving treatments, would Lexus offer this beautiful car to him then? or does it take being a multi-billionaire who could afford not only to buy the car, but the whole car company?
