Singer Neil Diamond has said it “just sounded right” to agree to play this years Glastonbury Festival.
Diamond is scheduled to appear on the Pyramid stage on the closing day (June 29th) of the event.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, the singer said that his only reservation was that he and his band weren’t “laughed out of the country.”
"Well I know it's one of the ultimate festivals and maybe the biggest,” he said.
“Maybe the best? Maybe the oldest? I've heard about it for years and it just sounded right. It just sounded like, this time let's have some fun and play the Glastonbury festival.”
When alerted to the fact that Johnny Cash had made an appearance at the festival in 1994, Diamond said he "didn’t know that”.
“Well, those are tough footsteps to follow in, but I think we'll have some fun,” he added. “That's basically why I want to do it."
This year’s festival will be headlined by US rapper Jay-Z, who today responded to comments Noel Gallagher made about his scheduled appearance at the festival.
Neil Diamond played an exclusive show to just 200 people in New York last week. Check out Gigwise’s photos below...
