Capitalizing on the success of her album ‘Miss Kelly’ as well as the popularity of the singles ‘Work’ and ‘Like This’; Kelly Rowland has put together an updated version of her smash album with new cuts, remixes and the removal of previously included tracks. With a pretty impressive resume already behind her – a member of one of the most successful girl groups of all time, Destiny’s Child, and a multi-platinum selling solo debut, many will ask if a Deluxe Edition of ‘Miss Kelly’ was really necessary. To respond to these critics, the answer is simple… yes!

With quite possibly one of the year’s biggest summer records, in the form of the Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes) featured ‘Daylight’, included on this release, this should be reason enough to pick up the album and support the stunningly beautiful singer. Its feel-good backdrop and sincerely happy vocals help create an atmosphere designed for beers, BBQ’s and bikinis. McCoy’s quick and quirky featured bars add fun and credibility to it without jeopardizing the pop/R&B audience of which it’s aimed at.

Other new additions include ‘Broken’ and ‘Unity’, which both sit in the slow jam circle alongside ‘Every Thought Is You’ and ‘Unity’, while remixes by Joey Negro and the Kamatronics of ‘Daylight’ and ‘Come Back’ speed things up for those in dire need of a shot of adrenaline. With that said, the only problem with the new version of ‘Miss Kelly’ is that from track four to ten listeners are left to fend for themselves amongst a handful of sluggish tempo songs. Kelly can easily pull off a good ballad, the excellent ‘Love’ proves this, but perhaps she just shouldn’t group them together like peas on a plate.

The Freemasons radio edit of ‘Work’ does its job in keeping original buyers of the album happy with an up-tempo club hit, and the Eve featured ‘Like This’ keeps the hip-hop heads entertained. Give it the once over and you’re sure to find something you’ll like. Whether it’s one of the older tracks or one of the remixes, there’s something for everyone on the revamped version of ‘Miss Kelly’. The cover art is pretty sexy too!
