US R&B singer R Kelly has appeared in court to face child pornography charges that stem from his arrest six years ago.
The singer, who denies the charges, stands accused of filming himself having sex with an underage girl.
A Last minute attempt by Kelly’s defence team to have the trial postponed because of possible media intrusion was turned down by the judge.
Kelly was greeted by a mixed reception outside the courtroom in Chicago yesterday (May 9th), with some jeering him and waving placards as he arrived in court.
The R&B star was arrested in February 2002 after a videotape was sent to his local paper the Chicago Sun-Times.
Kelly was later charged with 21 counts relating to child pornography, of which seven has since been dropped.
The jury in the trial, which is expected to last a number of weeks, will be selected on Monday (May 12th).
