Thousands Attend Pro-Barack Obama Arcade Fire Show

Thousands of music fans and political campaigners flocked to Carrboro on Friday (May 2nd) to watch Arcade Fire play a special concert in support of presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

The political concert, which also featured Superchunk, had been organised by the campaign to encourage One-Stop Early Voting at college campuses across the state of North Carolina.

Speaking to reporters before the show, Win Butler, Arcade Fire’s frontman, said the event had come together “kind of spontaneously” for the band.

"My experience with the Obama campaign has been very grassroots, that communal experience really fits what we're about as a band,” he added.

Obama, who is leading Hillary Clinton in the race to become the Democrat party’s presidential candidate, has received a number of high profile endorsements from musicians during his campaign.

Earlier this year, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz held an event in Chicago for the Illinois senator.

Obama extended his lead over Clinton yesterday (May 3rd) with a narrow win in the caucus on the small Pacific territory of Guam.
