Australian actress Nicole Kidman has confirmed that she will be playing the role of Dusty Springfield in a movie about the singing legend’s life in the sixties.
Director Michael Cunningham, who previously worked with Kidman when she won an Oscar for playing Virginia Wolf in The Hours, has drafted in the 40-year-old for the role.
The as-yet-untitled movie will focus on Springfield’s superstardom and the cracks in her personal life behind the limelight, including her drug and alcohol demons and mental health problems.
Cunningham said of the project: "It will be the real Dusty, a great artist who no one knew what to do with.
"But she is going into history with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones."
Springfield died on March 2, 1999 aged 59 after a battle with breast cancer. She is one of the most successful British acts ever in America, with 18 Billboard Chart entries to her name.
