Experience Hendrix, the company who owns the rights to Jimi Hendrix’s music and image, have disputed the authenticity of an alleged sex tape of the guitarist.
In a statement, the company said that they see the release of the tape, which is available on the internet, “as nothing more than a callous attempt to trade on the image and reputation of a deceased artist”.
Vivid Entertainment, the world's largest adult film producer, announced details of the tape earlier this week.
They claim that it shows a man who resembles Hendrix having sex with two brunettes in a hotel room.
The man’s full face only appears on screen for a few seconds, with his eyes closed.
Experience Hendrix noted how the guitarist was “unable to defend himself against such an outrageous and baseless assertion."
Speaking to Reuters, Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of Vivid, said yesterday that the company felt “very comfortable” that the man in the tape was Hendrix.
In addition to its release on the internet, the tape is expected to ship to stores across America next week.
