Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has said that he wants the band’s new album, ‘Viva La Vida’, to make them popular in the school playground.
Speaking to the BBC, Martin said that the band “felt incredibly hungry to prove why people have heard of us” with the new record.
The first track from the band’s fourth album, ‘Violet Hill’, was released as a free download on Tuesday (April 29th).
It received over 600,000 downloads in the first 24 hours of it appearing on the group’s website.
"I wanted it to be OK to be that 16-year-old who says they like Coldplay in the playground,” Martin said.
"Hopefully with this record they won't get teased so much."
The singer also acknowledged that the band wanted to "get better rather than bigger" with ‘Viva La Vida’.
The coincide with the release of the album on June 12th, the band will play three free shows in New York, London and Barcelona.
