Elvis Presley's Friends Deny He Visited London

    For sightseeing trip...

May 01, 2008 by Jason Gregory

Two of Elvis Presley’s closest friends, Lamar Fike and Marty Lacker, have denied claims that the singer made a secret trip to London in 1958.

Mr Fike, who was with Presley during his time in the US army, said the trip “did not happen.”

It was previously believed that Presley had only visited the United Kingdom once in his lifetime during a stopover at Prestwick Airport in 1960.

However, rock star Tommy Steele acknowledged recently that he had taken the singer on a sightseeing trip around London two years earlier.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Fike said that he was with Presley “the whole time” and that he was “confined to base.”

"Had he gone to England, I'd have been there,” Mr Fike added.

Steele was forced to break his silence about the supposed visit after Theatre producer Bill Kenwright told Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 that the pair had visited the House of Parliament.

In a letter to the Daily Mail, Steele said that he “regrets” that details of the trip had leaked.

    • The fact Tommy Steele said Elvis Presley visited London generated massive publicity. Now the denial by Elvis’s Guardian Angels generates more publicitY. Buy an Elvis 30 numberones CD and you will understand what all the fuss is about. After all it was Elvis’s extraordinary and riveting voice that had John Lennon seduced back in the 50s.

    • i agree with mr.colgan.elvis was and still is the greatest cultural force of our time.if he went there it was because of his inquinsencable thirst for knowledge.he should have went in the 70s so the uk fans had the chance to see him perform like we did here in the us.if elvis had that chance, he would be here today.
