Storyteller and beat poet inspired acoustic vagabond, curator and keeper of the upcoming talent flame, Jont comes at us again with his now third album. Fresh from invading our homes armed with an acoustic army and championing such acts as Newton Faulkner, Adem and Tom Baxter to name but a few, Jont captures our hearts in the most nervous and gentle ways since Coldplay did all those years ago with ‘Parachutes’.

Not one with a command of an exceptionally unique voice or even a powerful one at that, Jont has an uncanny ability to draw the listener in with his gentle whispers and understated vocals, bashful and vulnerable yet poignant nonetheless, comparisons could be drawn with the likes of a happier Elliot Smith, or that of Damien Rice in the earlier days. Beautiful creations such as ‘Supernatural’ hold a warmth that is surprisingly refreshing, keyboard work swirling in and out and haunting piano lines supporting the guiding acoustic guitar.

Other gems are discovered in the form of ‘Another Door Closes’ and the obvious highlight that is ‘House Of Dreaming’ – a tale of a bored movie theatre usher with grander designs for the life he has been trapped in for so long, helped along by a boisterous double bass and an excitable string section. Applying his storytelling skills furthermore unto the love story of ‘Sweetheart’ resulting in a beautifully heartfelt confession of adoration, Jont has a delightful musical palette than he can use to get the best out of the most minimalist of arrangements.

‘Supernatural’ is a quaint little album that will surely appease those looking for some music to fall in love with. If not fully appreciative of this nice album, at least appreciate the fact he has and will keep the homefires for acoustic singer/songwriters burning. Jont is by no means the greatest songwriter of our generation, but no doubt he’ll discover that person for us, and surely inspire a few along the way with what he has to say.
