The thirtieth anniversary of London’s iconic Rock Against Racism carnival will take place in Victoria Park this afternoon (April 27th).
The event, which has been organised by the Love Music Hate Racism campaign, will feature a headlining performance from The Good, The Bad and The Queen.
Other acts scheduled to appear include Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell who will perform with special guests after the imprisonment of frontman Pete Doherty.
The original Rock Against Racism event, which also featured an Anti-Nazi League March, attracted over 100,000 campaigners.
It’s hoped that this year’s anniversary edition will discourage the BNP party from winning seats at the London council elections next week.
On Friday it emerged that former Smiths star Morrissey had donated a considerable sum to the event after it’s major financial sponsor backed out.
Morrissey said that the event would spread an “important, anti-racist, message” and therefore “must be allowed to go ahead”.
Despite a chance of rain, thousands of people are expected to head down to the event when it begins a noon.
