Sir Paul McCartney Announces Massive Independence Show

Sir Paul McCartney will play a massive Independence Concert to hundreds of thousands of people in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev this summer.

The former Beatles concert will take place in the city’s main Independence Square on June 14th.

Speaking about the event, McCartney said: "Pull together, groove, rock and roll - all together."

McCartney was invited to play the concert by Viktor Pinchuk, the son-in-law of the former Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma.

Mr Pinchuk said the event would be “the first time we have the opportunity to hear the songs that changed the world and created a new culture."

Mr Pinchuk, who also heads his own foundation, said that the Beatles music had helped to build democratic aspirations in former Soviet Union.

The concert is expected to eclipse a performance by Sir Elton John held in Independence Square last year, which was attended by 200,000 people.
