A watchdog group has called into question Elton John’s fundraising event in New York for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Judicial Watch have posted a formal complaint which hints that as Elton John is British, he does not comply with the law that prohibits foreign nationals from raising proceeds for election campaigns.
They have formally asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate, saying in a statement: "Sir Elton John is not a citizen of the United States and is therefore prohibited from making any contribution to Senator Clinton's presidential campaign."
However, the New York Times quotes Hillary’s camp who deny any wrongdoing, saying: “Hillary’s campaign has complied with the law. Since 1987, the FEC has consistently held that foreign nationals may volunteer their time for campaigns on an uncompensated basis.
“Elton John is simply volunteering his uncompensated time to appear at the concert. This appearance is consistent with past F.E.C. rulings.”
