Sir Paul McCartney’s massive gig at Anfield celebrating Liverpool’s Capital of Culture was almost cancelled, it has emerged.
Macca’s show at Liverpool’s football ground on June 1 is a highlight of the city’s 2008 celebrations, but it almost hit the buffers over a lack of funding.
Liverpool City Council came to the rescue on Monday donating a massive £1.7million to McCartney Productions Ltd. (MPL), reports the BBC.
A report published says that had an agreement not been reached, it “was likely to result in the concert being cancelled.” The deal was agreed in recent weeks.
Importantly, the former Beatle and Liverpool Football Club are not making any money from the event, with all of the £1.7million going on costs of staging the event, licence fees and insurance.
McCartney Productions Ltd. are in sole charge of organising and staging the concert, while if there is any overspend, the council will cover it.
