Blood Red Shoes have slammed modern indie music, saying they don’t like the vast majority of bands that now make up the genre.
The duo, who released their debut album ‘Box of Secrets’ this week, attacked bands like The Pigeon Detectives and The Wombats and said that they categorically don’t want to be associated with these acts.
Asked by Gigwise why they dislike being tagged as ‘indie’, Steven Ansell ranted: “Because indie bands suck! I mean, indie, if it was what it was years ago then yeah, we’d be an indie band, but now, if you’re talking about the Pigeon Detectives, Wombats, The View, The Enemy, then that’s what we’re talking about, we’re not…”
He continued: “We’d hate to be considered as on the same time of level as those bands.”
Frontwoman Laura-Mary added: “I think more people have realised that now, that we’re more kind of rock and punk.”
