Supermarket Tesco will launch a new digital service next month which will eventually give consumer’s access to music, TV and Films.
Tesco Digital will launch with an upgraded edition of the company’s existing digital-download service.
The new version will give users access to 3.3million songs - 1.6million of which will be available in MP3 format.
Previously users had only been able to download music via Tesco in Windows Media format.
Tesco’s new service is expected to expand into TV and films later this year, putting the company in competition with existing download portals such as iTunes.
Graham Harris, Commercial Director at Tesco, said that the new music service is “just the start”.
“We’re starting out with a comprehensive music offering, but customers can expect downloadable TV and films as well as games to buy very soon,” he said.
