Sir Paul McCartney admitted that his late wife Linda's breast cancer was so advanced that he and their family were informed but decided to not tell her.
The Beatles legend told the Sunday Times “At the time she knew she was ill, but she’d had chemo and her hair was growing back…I’m not actually sure she ever knew she was dying.”
The doctor then advised McCartney it might be best to not inform her. The doctor said she was “such a strong, forward thinking lady” and that informing her would probably have done no good.
Linda passed away on April 17, 1998, aged 56, at the family’s home in Arizona.
