US rapper Remy Ma, who received a Grammy nomination in 2004, is to marry her fiancé in prison.
The rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, is currently in jail awaiting sentencing after she was convicted shooting a woman outside a New York nightclub.
Smith’s lawyer said she intends to marry her fiancé, rapper Papoose, “one way or another”.
Smith faces up to 25 years in prison after being found guilty on assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion charges by a jury at New York’s Supreme Court last month.
Prosecutors said that Smith deliberately shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph in a dispute over money, while the rapper claims the shooting was an accident.
According to the BBC, 200 wedding services take place at Rikers prison, where Smith is being held, every year but the couple won’t be allowed to wear rings at the ceremony.
