Gordon Brown has pledged to get tough on Cannabis, despite the advice of an official government advisory body.
As reported yesterday, the BBC claims that the Committee on the Misuse of Drugs deemed that Cannabis should not be reclassified as a Class B drug from its current status of Class C.
Their official report will be filed to the government later in the month.
Despite this, the PM is adamant that a strong message is sent out to drug users and stands by his stance that cannabis use is “not acceptable”, according to his spokesperson.
The Conservatives are also urging Gordon Brown to reclassify the drug swiftly before the advisory group file their report.
Shadow home secretary David Davies, said: “This shambles has been caused by Gordon Brown’s complete inability to make a decision. Rather than take action, he took the soft option of ordering a review.”
