The family of R&B singer Sean Levert have called on the FBI to investigate his death because they do not believe reports suggesting his behaviour was “out of control” while in jail.
As previously reported on Gigwise the former O’Jays singer only started the two year jail sentence last week.
He collapsed in his cell at Cuyahoga County Jail on Sunday (March 30) and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
A coroners report found no evidence of foul play but could not find any immediate cause of death.
A prison warder, Kevin McDonough, claimed on Tuesday that Levert had to be physically restrained by staff at the jail because of his behaviour.
However, Levert’s cousin Michael Gibson has said that the outbursts described by McDonough are completely out of character with the singer’s normal behaviour.
The FBI will now meet the Levert family to discuss the case while the coroner waits on toxicology tests following the initial autopsy.
