An April Fool’s joke about a bogus secret Foo Fighters gig in New Zealand went drastically wrong yesterday.
Radio station Rock FM announced that Dave Grohl and co. will be playing a highly intimate acoustic show at the Auckland Powerstation yesterday morning.
Station bosses only expected a handful of people to turn up to the venue, where they planned to unveil the prank by playing some Foo Fighters songs through a tape deck.
However, thousands of people from all over the country began traveling to the show in anticipation of the real deal.
In response, director Brad King hastily released a statement categorically denying the event will happen, saying: This is an April Fools gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and completely untrue.
"On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologise for this mis-information. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fools jokes."
