A defence analyst has urged the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) to use the career of Madonna as inspiration for a new Strategic concept.
Dr Peter van Ham believes that NATO should regularly reform itself by following what business analysts call the ‘Madonna-curve’.
“This curve is named after the legendary pop-diva who reinvented herself each time her style and stardom went into inevitable decline but whose audacity has lifted her up to ever-higher levels of relevance and fame,” van Ham told the Guardian.
The analyst believes that if the organisation, which meets in Bucharest later this week, fails to adopt a new concept, it will continue to see “a steady decline in relevance and merit".
He compared the current state of NATO to the Rolling Stones, saying it is like “a band who should have stopped earlier, but has failed to do so because of popular demand.”
NATO has been criticised by leaders for failing to adapt it’s strategic concept since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in America.
