The Rolling Stones have had a 44 year ban lifted which previously prevented them from performing in the seaside resort of Blackpool.
Mick Jagger and co. were slapped with a lifetime ban back in July 1964 when a show at the legendary Blackpool Empress Ballroom descended into a full scale riot.
The incident allegedly happened when a man tried to spit at band member Brian Jones. Keith Richards warned the man against it and then proceeded to kick him in the face before a mass brawl broke out, with the band swiftly exiting the stage.
50 people were treated in hospital for their injuries, while s Steinway piano, chandeliers and seating were all destroyed. Since the brawl The Stones have been forbidden from playing the city.
However, council leader Peter Callow has now stepped in to lift the ban and send a personal invitation to the legendary rockers to perform in the town.
He said: “We are writing to the group to say the ban has been lifted and they are welcome to play here again.”
The Rolling Stones' new live album 'Shine A Light' is released on April 7.
