SonyBMG are working on a new music service that will allow users unlimited access to songs on the record label's catalogue.
Once downloaded, songs by artists such as Alicia Keys and Editors will be compatible with a number of MP3 devices.
The service, which hasn't been given launch date, was unveiled yesterday by EMI’s Chief Executive Rolf Schmidt-Holtz.
Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, Schmidt-Holtz said that the service would charge a flat rate fee of around 6 to 8 euros a month.
He added that users may be able to “keep some songs indefinitely, that they would own them even after the subscription expired."
Record labels are continuing to search for new ways to release music in a bid to halt the continuing fall in CD sales.
SonyBMG’s plans are similar to Nokia’s forthcoming Comes With Music service, where users will pay a one off fee.
