Fans think they have spotted a reference to Sir Paul McCartney’s former wife, Heather Mills, on his latest studio album.
The track ‘Mister Bellamy’ on ‘Memory Almost Full’, which was released in June last year, alludes to the breakdown of McCartney’s marriage to ex-model Heather Mills, according to commentators on an internet forum.
The title of the track is believed to be an anagram of ‘Mills betray me’, whilst lyrics that may allude to the breakdown of McCartney’s marriage include “I’m not coming down no matter what you do, I like it up here without you,” and “no one to tell me what to do, no one to hold my hand”.
One fan commented on an internet forum that McCartney “may not have consciously written about her, but the words certainly seem to apply.”
Another wrote, "Paul writes metaphorically. He can write a song about his relationship with Heather without actually saying the words Heather, wife, divorce or mistrust," said another contributor to the online forum.”
McCartney, meanwhile, stated upon the release of the album that he did not know who the mystery ‘Mr Bellamy’ might be.
“Who is Mr Bellamy?” Sir Paul said. “Well, I never know who these people are. Who is Chuck and Dave from 'When I'm 64'? Who is Eleanor Rigby? Who is Desmond and Molly from 'Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da'? I don't know, I just make them up.”
McCartney finalised his divorced with Mills last week in a case that has generated an enormous amount of media intrigue. The final settlement cost him £24 million.
