Guitar rock and dance collide in this E.P. from French three piece Poney Poney, and the result is a catchy, infectious lo-fi garage rock tune. Production from Xavier de Rosnay provides the electro edge to ‘Cross The Fader’, but it’s essentially a guitar driven rock song. Following on the E.P. are two remixes, from Headman and Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya, taking the song and transforming it altogether, stripping back the guitars and bringing in synths and massive electronic drums. They work, but feel a bit unnecessary – the song works best in its raw, guitar/drums/bass band form.
Future plans of Poney Poney include working with Mr Oizo, who you may remember for the ridiculously catchy ‘Flat Beat’. That, combined with the rock and pop influences this band possesses, should mean some more interesting and infectious music coming from them in the future. For now, they have made a great little garage rock song.
