While speaking about finishing The Hold Steady’s new record, band frontman Craig Finn has taken the time to lambaste both Motley Crue and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The singer claims that these two acts have aged poorly when compared to other legends in the music industry.
He says: "You have artists like Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young that have aged very well and then you have a thousand other examples that have aged poorly.
"Anything that’s part of a trend or a group hasn’t aged well, like hair metal. Motley Crue didn’t age very well and even Red Hot Chili Peppers are terrible now. That doesn’t even sound like rock n’ roll to me. It’s kinda like bland, elevator music."
In the interview with xfm, Finn said that the band have nearly twenty songs primed to appear on the follow-up to 2006’s acclaimed ‘Boys & Girls In America.’
Finn explained: "We’ve finished our record. We’ve been recording for the good part of this year. I think we started January 2 or so and we finished mixing probably about a week ago. So we’ve recorded about 18, 19 songs so we’ll cut down a couple."
He also quashed media reports that the record will herald a significant change in direction from their previous effort, continuing: "It’s a Hold Steady record but there’s some stuff we do a little different.
“There’s some different tones and textures and things like that but I think it’s still pretty much a Hold Steady record: it’s still rock’n’roll. It’s piano, two guitars and bass and drums."

- this guy has his head up his ass. to say the peppers are ok is understandable if you’re not into that kind of music. but to say they suck? that’s the biggest load of crap i’ve ever heard. suck a nut craig.
