Duffy went straight in at number one in the album chart yesterday, securing a chart double for the Welsh singer.
The album ‘Rockferry’ sold 180,000 copies in its first week of sales to claim the number one spot, while the single ‘Mercy’ spent a third week at the top.
The impressive sales figure for ‘Rockferry’ surpassed the rest of the top ten put together. However, the figure is dwarfed by Leona Lewis who shifted 375,000 copies of her album ‘Spirit’ in a week last November – the highest ever first week sales for a debut in the UK.
Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ was toppled to number two, while Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ was the only new entry inside the top ten at two.
In a typically uneventful week in the singles chart the only new entry of note was We Are Scientists’ ‘After Hours’ in 15th spot.
