Elbow - 'Grounds For Divorce'

starstarstarstarhalf star

The guitar riff that dominates Elbow's latest single 'Grounds For Divorce', taken from the bands fourth album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', is one of guitarist Mark Potter's trademark killer blows that makes it's appearance to tracks as frequently as the famous Status Quo three chord combo. Elbow have come some distance since their formation in 1990; Mercury Music Prize and Brit Award nominations and the release of four stunning albums has brought them a stones throw from the title of rock legends.

In 'Grounds For Divorce' a mix of the bands traditional heavy guitar riffs and Guy Garvey's mellow growl play out alongside delicate acoustics and hand claps proving they're a group more than capable of both extremes. With the end product yielding a gritty track of anthemic quality it's a perfect precursor to the albums release which in some ways will be a tribute to singer/ songwriter Bryan Glancy, a friend to the band who died recently.

Released 10/03/08 on Fiction.
