MGMT, known formerly to pubescent American teens as The Management, are trio Ben Goldwasser, Andrew VanWyngarden and James Richardson - whose mix of noise rock, electronica and synth pop is being tipped by the UK's musical media as a combination certain to be of huge appeal in 2008.
With 'Time To Pretend', a slowly building orchestra of electronic bleeps and sirens accompanied by a cavernously proportioned, cathedral like synthesizer melody, a wall of sound fills the air which leaves you contemplating whether it's the kind of sound that would me more at home playing in the background at Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Describing their sound as 'Future 70's', it's a fantastic mix of the old and the new swathed in an abundance of Technicolor.
Released 03/03/08 on Columbia.
