Die Romantik - 'Narcissists Waltz'

Die Romantik - 'Narcissists Waltz'

Brooklyn trio Die Romantik formed in New York in 2005, but it was really only with release of debut album ‘Narcissist’s Waltz’ last June that they came to the attention of a greater audience. Having met at high school in Paris, and echoing the bohemian ambiance of the French capital in their lilting, music-box melodies, Die Romantik are the March release from Kruger Singles Club, a little-known and old-school idea of releasing a Kruger-approved track from upcoming artists to its members each month, free of charge.

Rotating vocal duties between Eric, Dominic and Olivier, the two offerings here, the title track and ‘Another Round’ are by no means springtime pick-me-ups, and err on the dark side of pop.  They are the kind of tunes played on a carousel at Papa Lazarou’s funfair, or in a Jeunet/Caro fairytale, if you like, each hiding a dark secret beneath the perfectly-embroidered melody. Die Romantik announced at the end of February 2008 that they are parting company and so this release acts as a fitting swansong to one of the more interesting bands of the last few years.

Released 03/03/08 on Kruger Singles Club.
