Having been away from the limelight for a good year, Oxford’s finest, Young Knives, have unsheathed this light-hearted attack on the fashionista fraternity; more concerned with ‘looking famous’ than ‘raising a smile’. It’s not a clever song. It’s not really got anything special to say – but what it does say is poignant enough to tap into the more carefree, fun-filled, warm musical climate we are currently enjoying.
Despite sounding exactly like Rocket From The Crypt (see ‘On A Rope’), the chanted refrain of “Up All Night! Up All Night!” does a good job of sounding both like a fist-pumping self-affirmation, and a sarcastic nod to fame-hungry crowd-followers. By not setting out to make any sort of ground-breaking point the Young Knives have proved they know how to craft a top pop tune.
