Sir Bob Geldof and Terry Wogan have both backed Ireland’s Eurovision Song Contest entrant, the puppet Dustin The Turkey.
After winning the public vote on Saturday night (February 23), Dustin’s countrymen have been keen to lend their support ahead of the May 20 ceremony in Belgrade.
Geldof said: “It would be rank ‘poultryism’ should one of the greatest talents Ireland has ever produced be not allowed to represent our glorious musical heritage.
"If the Eurovision Song Contest is known for anything at all, it is for the vast number of turkeys it produces each year. The fact that Dustin is a turkey should give Ireland the edge. Ireland will gobble them up.”
Terry Wogan, whose hilarious commentary makes Eurovision vaguely watchable each year, told The Sun: “Dustin the Turkey will wow them from Belarus to Reykjavik. After all, for the past few years, we’ve been picking a turkey for the UK.”
Dustin the Turkey is currently 20-1 to win Eurovision, according to bookmakers William Hill.
