U2 have entered their Dublin studio to begin recording the follow-up to their 2004 album ‘How To Dismantle An Atom Bomb’.
Daniel Lanois, the band’s long time collaborator, says that the group want to “break new sonic ground and deliver a masterpiece” with the as-yet-untitled album.
Tracks for the album, which will also feature the production of Brian Eno, began coming together during impromptu recording sessions over the past two years.
"There's so much material," Lanois told Billboard. "When you get Eno and I and those guys in the room, before lunch there's like eight things."
He continued: "We've had some exciting beginnings via jam sessions, now we will pick our favourite beginnings and say, 'OK, that's a lovely springboard. Now what are we trying to say?'
“The springboards are sometimes melodic, sometimes riff-based, but I can assure you they are exciting."
A release date for the album has yet to be confirmed.
