CD Sales 'Double' In Build Up To The BRIT Awards

The CD sales of BRIT nominated artists have more than doubled in the build up to this weeks awards, figures released today show.

In total, the sales of CDs by artists, such as, Klaxons, Take That and Mika are expected to generate an additional £4million in retail sales for the record industry over the following six weeks.

The BRIT Awards themselves take place at Earls Court on Wednesday (February 20th) and for the second year running will be broadcast live on ITV1.

The new figures also reveal that artists who were nominated or performed at last years ceremony saw an average sales lift of 82%.

Snow Patrol, The Killers and Amy Winehouse were among nine acts who saw their figures more than double in the wake of last years event.

The increase was still not enough to prevent the continuing slide of CD sales in the United Kingdom, however, which has yet to be offset by the growing popularity of legal downloading.
