Prince and the Village People are to sue representatives of a Swedish download site after it emerged that their songs were available for users to download without consent.
They claim that the owners of Pirate Bay, which is already facing legal action from a British law firm, had not been granted permission to use their music.
Lawyer Lars Sandberg, who has been hired on behalf of the musicians, said it had not yet been decided whom the legal action would be directed against.
He added, however, that it would likely be the same four individuals, believed to be the websites founders, who have already been charged over their connections to the company, reports AFP.
The legal action is the latest in a growing assault by authorities to clamp down on the illegal downloading of music as CD sales continue to fall.
